There will be different guided tours with English speaking guides through Leuven. You have to choose one of the following tours:- Modern architecture in the center
How do you integrate modern architecture in a historical city centre? Several urbanists and architects have tried to answer this question and during this walk we will show you some interesting examples: a modernist technical school that has been transformed into a public library, the prize winning M-museum, new residential quarters in some of the oldest parts of the city. - University
The presence of the University since almost 600 years has got a huge impact on the city. During this walk you will find out more about student life in the middle ages and today, you will visit some of the most fascinating colleges in the town center and you will learn about the colorful characters that used to walk (and are still walking) the streets of our town. - Begijnhof
We will take you on a walk in the “Great Beguinage”. This bit of UNESCO world heritage from the 13th century is a bewitching piece of pure relaxation right in the heart of the city. It has a succession of streets, squares, gardens and parks, with dozens of houses and convents in traditional sandstone. During the high days in the 17th century around 360 beguines lived there, pious women who did not have their own conventual order and needed accommodation. These days students, foreign guest professors and employees from the oldest catholic university in Europe have replaced these ladies. - Discover Leuven
This walk is a great introduction to our beautiful city. We guide you along well known attractions: the townhall, the Domus brewery, Pope's college, the University Hall, the Old Market square … But we also take less trodden paths and show you unexpected and hidden corners of the town. Numerous anecdotes, exciting stories and colourful characters bring the history of Leuven to life. At the same time you will get a good picture of the actual daily life in our joyful Burgundian town. In short, this is the ideal walk to become familiar with what makes Leuven a city like no other. - Thomas More's Utopia
How was it to be a student in 1516 when Thomas More's Utopia was printed in Leuven? It was a period when the university town was at the heart of the humanism and old convictions were overthrown by new scientific discoveries and—most literally—the discovery of a new world. In this walk you discover many unexpected parallels between the days of Thomas More and Erasmus and our own times.
- Modern architecture in the center
- BBQ on Friday noon, 15 July 2016
The BBQ includes an aperitif, three pieces of meat (a vegetarian option is available, too), a salad bar, bread, and dessert. Wine and soft drinks are included.
